Time to take that step
December 7, 2014
The third Women’s Weekend Boxing Clinic looks set to be the best ever. It will take place on Australia Day weekend, from January 24-26, 2015.
Bianca ‘Bam Bam’ Elmir and Boxing Central are excited about this event because we’ve realised that this is an important stepping stone for any aspiring female fighters who want to take that next step in their boxing journey. For some that might be launching into an amateur boxing career and for others it might be just the opportunity to learn how to spar in a supportive and encouraging environment.
For others it might be that they’ve had a few fights and want to refine their skills and try out new techniques. It’s rare that you get the chance to work in this way with so many other female boxers.
So we’ve been busy plotting and planning new ways to help get you on the way. At the last clinic, which took place at Stockade Training Centre in Canberra we added a fight night, in which we matched participants in bouts as close as they’ll get to the real thing, so they could test all the skills they had learned under the pressure of performance in front of others, complete with judges and referees from Boxing ACT. It was such a success that we’ll do it again in Melbourne on the Sunday night of the clinic and on the Monday we can go through the video footage and find out what went right and what went wrong.
We also have plans to include a session with Shelley Watts, Australia’s first female boxing Commonwealth Games gold medallist. Shelley is no stranger to Boxing Central having been part of the Diana Prazak/Lucia Rijker Camp in March when she helped Prazak prepare for her home town world title defence against Shannon O’Connell. With any luck Diana will also be able to attend the clinic, depending on her schedule. Stay tuned for further updates.
We are currently taking bookings through PayPal for the clinic. Spots are limited to book early by going to the link.
Below are some of Paul Oliver shots of last summer’s clinic. Many of these girls went on to fight in either amateur boxing bouts or Interclub fights. The clinic has become a career launching event. Don’t miss out.
